I am currently in the second year of a three-year-bachelor-programme in business administration. At the University of Hull my courses are Marketing Communications, Management Accounting and Financial Economics. I am studying at the University of Hull for one semester, from 2 February to 5 June. I chose to study abroad for one semester in Hull to improve my English, to gain new experiences and because I like England.
I found out about the opportunity to volunteer with Emmaus from an advertisement that was posted on the volunteering website of Hull University Union. I was interested about the organisation so I met with Helen who gave me some more information about Emmaus and current projects. I have mainly worked on three projects to support Emmaus in receiving more donated items that can be sold in the new shops that will be opened later this year. Currently I am organising an exciting competition for schools in Hull and in the East Riding together with Kelly. Pupils will discuss homelessness and the schools will compete in collecting the most donations for Emmaus. I chose to volunteer with Emmaus because it gives me the opportunity to apply my marketing knowledge from university in a real world context and to contribute to a meaningful mission. I have learned that planning projects for charities is a demanding task but that creativity and enthusiasm will be rewarded.
