Volunteer with Us

We are always looking for people who are keen to get involved with Emmaus Hull and East Riding.

Emmaus Community Ambassador

Role Outline

This role was inspired by International Microvolunteering Day as we appreciate that for many reasons people are unable to volunteer their time on a regular basis but may still like to support us. This involves helping us with some smaller actions at a time that is convenient for you, but that still have a positive impact on our charity.

How can you get involved?

Here are some ways in which you may be able to support us in this role. However, you can get involved in as many or as little of these as you wish, or even come up with your own suggestions that we would be happy to support.

 Be our eyes and ears

Our outreach team cover miles of ground both on foot and in our Emmaus vehicles to ensure we are engaging with anyone who could be facing homelessness or sleeping rough. However, the more eyes and ears the better! If you see anyone who could be sleeping rough in the Hull and East Riding area, please call us on our freephone line 0800 0662169 or via our social media platforms. By contacting us you could be signposting support for someone who really needs it.

Help us spread the word!

We like to keep everyone updated on what’s going on here at Emmaus, so why not help us spread the word? We are active across several social media platforms and regularly post about our companions, our outreach service and how we’re helping the homeless, our current volunteer opportunities, and our shops with their latest offers and items up for grabs.

All you need to do is look out for our social media posts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. By liking, sharing and commenting on our content it helps to widen our reach and make more people aware of our service.

If you’re part of an organisation or community group you could promote Emmaus by putting up some of our posters or making our leaflets available.

Hold a fundraising event

You could hold a fundraising event with the proceeds donated to Emmaus Hull & East Riding. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking…

  • Virtual coffee morning
  • Virtual book club
  • Sponsored walk, run, swim or marathon!
  • Zoom quiz night
  • Birthday fundraiser
  • Have a skill to share? Organise a virtual exercise class, baking/cooking class, teach a language lesson.. the possibilities are endless!

Due to the restrictions that are still in place for Covid-19, most fundraising is happening virtually at the moment and using a JustGiving page is a great way to collect donations.

Share your experience

If Emmaus has supported you or someone you know in any capacity, please share your experience with us and those around you. We love to hear about your experiences and this helps to spread awareness about our charity and what we can do to support people.

Have other ideas?

This role is not limited to the ideas mentioned above. If you have other ideas about how you could support us please do get in touch, we would love to hear from you!
